Water: 4 Watersports Activities To Try On The Garden Route
For the watersports enthusiast, The Garden Route offers plenty of opportunities to get one's feet wet. Here are 4 activities to indulge in whilst staying at Hog Hollow Country Lodge.
There are a wealth of surf spots within easy driving distance from Hog Hollow Country Lodge, including Lookout beach, Rooberg 5 beach, Sanctuary beach and The Wreck, all, in Plettenberg Bay. Venture a little further to Buffels Bay, Victoria Bay and Mossel Bay for some excellent waves to the west, or even further east to Jeffreys Bay which features the world's best right hand point break.
In summer, the calmer weather and swell provide ideal conditions for Stand Up Paddling (SUP).
Don't know how to surf? Jamin Surf School in Plett offers surfing and SUP courses.
Paddle from Plett's central beach to the seal colony at the Robberg Peninsula with Dolphin Adventures. You stand a very good chance, as their name suggests, of also seeing dolphins and whales.
Or, venture further east to The Storms River mouth where untouched adventures offer kayak trips up the Storms River canyon.
The wind almost always blows on the Garden Route so there are diverse opportunities for kitesurfers, including the laggons and estuaries between Plett and Sedgefield to the beach breaks at Buffels Bay, Brenton on Sea and Plettenberg Bay. For beginners Jamin Adventures offers three 2 hour lessons that should have you up and flying in no time.
The many reefs all along the Garden Route coast offer endless oppotunities to scuba dive. Pro Dive in Plettenberg Bay conduct tours ranging from beach entry to boat trips to some spectacular spots. They also offer introductory diving courses for beginners or full open water courses with certification.
